Getting tO know your core
The core. It's a buzz word we hear a lot, but do you truly know your powerhouse? Most associate the core with the abs and while the abdominals are definitely a part of the core, there is so much more to it. The key muscles include the rectus abdominus otherwise known as your "6-pack", the obliques, the transversus abdominus, and the multifidi, (your deep spinal stabilizers).
I believe that the core also consists of your gluteals, pelvic floor, hips, and shoulders as they are all interconnected through the network of fascia. Pilates and Yoga both target these muscles in different ways. Through a regular and focused Pilates practice, you can find a balanced core, one that is strong yet flexible.
